Read moreI don't think of myself as particular; I'm flexible when I need to be. I've been traveling for the past two weeks, and I'll happily embrace new routines when I'm away. Bedtimes vary, I eat what meals are put in front of me, and exercise might mean briefly flailing my legs about in the resort hot tub and calling it cardio.

She is also an expert woodworker, makes a killer chocolate biscotti, and she picks up the phone whenever one of her four daughters call, which (if you know anything about family) should earn her sainthood since at least one of us four is always in the midst of a crisis. That's just basic math.

It doesn’t usually bring sun or buds on the trees or Christmas days hikes in a t-shirt and shorts. But that’s all turned upside down this year, so if we’re going to get all addled with our seasonal cues, I figure we might as well make the most of it and eat some s’mores. We can’t eat them over a beach campfire on a warm July night, but we can turn them into cookies and that’s just as good.

You think I'm one of those people who like canned pineapple and cinnamon in their cottage cheese, which in my opinion is right up there with other questionable behaviors like wearing sneakers with jeans and putting tiny rain boots on your dog.
